Title KOREA-OECD Workshop on Open Science

The Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) held the “KOREA-OECD Workshop on Open Science” at the Sheraton Seoul D Cube City Hotel (Seoul) on June 29th and 30th. The Workshop was co-hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

 

Over 100 Korean and international professionals participated in the workshop, centered around the theme “Policy to Practice,” and exchanged ideas and opinions on recent trends regarding open science policies and practices, and their implications to future policies. Especially, on the second day of the workshop, the public was invited to the discussion sessions after the speech by global experts.

 

During Session I of Day 2, Dominique Guellec from the Science and Technology Policy Division of the OECD explained open science policy at the global level. Dr. Gabriele Fioni (OECD Global Science Forum), Dr. Sandrine Langlade (the Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, France), Dr. Kazuhiro Hayashi (National Institute of Science and Technology Policy, Japan), and Dr. Jerry Sheehan (National Library of Medicine, U.S.) presented open science policies in leading countries, including France, Japan, and the U.S.

 

During Session II, Prof. Jeong Wook Seo (Seoul National University), Dr. Seo-Young Noh (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information), Mr. Carthage Smith (OECD Global Science Forum), and Dr. Eunjung Shin (STEPI) presented topical issues including open access, open data, and emerging open and inclusive collaboration practices. At the end of the session, there was constructive discussion among Korean participants and international experts from European countries, China, and Japan.
